Be Thy Healer feast to your health

Hippocrates, the father of Western medicine said, “Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food.”

Looking to build healthier habits? But your BUSY right! You want to create a healthier diet and lifestyle for you and your family but Life and scheduling keeps getting in the way. Time is often perceived as the most precious commodity to the average family today. But a shift is rising and many are beginning to recognize that the most prized commodity one truly has is our health! What our lifestyle and environment consists of is either protecting and fighting disease or feeding it and many individuals are seeking to shift their current approach. Remember, you don’t have to change everything all at once. Start with small steps that you can feel good about. In a previous post I discussed the importance of pure water as our major source of hydration. Today I am writing on basic food choices one should try to follow.

  1. Add nutrient-rich foods. Instead of thinking about what not to eat, think about the things you can add to your diet. Strive to incorporate more greens and colorful veggies into your meals. If possible use GMO free and organic when possible.
  2. Eat closer to nature. Concentrate on whole foods in their natural forms, such as fruits and vegetables. If it looks like it did when it grew from the earth, that’s your queue that it’s a healthier choice. I good rule of thumb is also if it’s in a package its been processed, and we want as minimal processing possible in our diet.
  3. Go for whole grains. Instead of reaching for regular pasta or white bread, look for varieties made with 100% whole grain flour. Better yet, fill your belly with whole grains, such as brown rice, quinoa, oats or barley avoiding wheat flour altogether.
  4. Avoid “low-fat” products, instead look for unadulterated whole and better yet organic options.
  5. Reorganize your plate. Think of lean meat and fish caught not farmed as flavor boosters instead of the main event. Put beans, whole grains and veggies in the spotlight, and keep servings of meat and fish(wild caught) at 3 ounces or less (that’s about the size of a deck of playing cards).IMG_9439

Nutrition does not have to be complicated but our current grocery store often seems pretty overwhelming. I great tip is to meal plan lay out your recipes and ingredients needed make a detailed list and do not stray from it. Try to stick to the outer rim of the store or a fantastic option is to avoid the store and its temptations all together. Many grocers now offer an order online and simple pick up option. Jet.com is also fantastic and has free shipping on orders over $35 as well and coupon codes galore! Farmers markets are also a great place to get local produce and get to know your farmer and their farming practices. Plant a garden to alleviate grocery costs get a few chickens if possible. Eating well can be more expensive yes but there are many tips and tricks to keep costs down. Stay tuns for those tips and more.

Drink to your Health

I want to begin sharing on the basic foundations of health. My aim is to support a undersanding and general awarness. You do NOT have to be a professional to have a fantastic grasp on the functionality of your body and how to best support it. I want to empower individulas to full awaness, objective though and taking their power back from a broken medical system that is sadly dissapointing and failing so many of us!IMG_7545

Water does you body good! Chronic dehydration is a condition which affects many individuals and they are more or less unaware. It contributes to degenerated disease, shortens life span and negatively impacts general quality of life. Water is essential for the proper mechanical and physiological functioning of everything within our bodies. It is the most common molecule in the human body without it your body cannot function normally. Next to oxygen water is the most essential element for your survival. Most common cause of daytime fatigue is mild dehydration. Water helps your body maintain a HEALTHY WEIGHT. Weight management is one of the top reasons individuals seek support and guidance. But we really do have all the tools we need to manage our general heath and wellness on our own. Adequate water intake is one of those tools. It enables your body to excrete  excess waste through our elimination system. The kidneys and liver use it to help flush your system of unused matter, as do your intestines. Water plays a key role in helping move the food you’ve eaten through your intestinal tract. If we are consuming predominantly beverages that are NOT water we are increasing our bodies work load, and it is forced into tons of unnecessary extra work filtering through the beverage to get to what it actually needs. This is increasing the amount of unnecessary waste and taxing your systems. Without adequate water intake is very difficult for the body to remove unused matter so it is often stored unnecessarily causing various health issues from minor to major. How much water should we be drinking? A few factors come into play when considering how much you should consume. Your activity level, any medications you may be on, if you drink coffee and how much muscle you have. A simple formula is to divide your body weight in half then divide by 8 to find the number of cups per day you should consume. But if that is too much math aim for 3L. Increasing your intake over a few days to gradually get to 3L.

  1. Water generates electrical and magnetic energy inside each and every cell of the body; it provides the power to live.
  2. Water prevents DNA damage and makes its repair mechanisms more efficient – less abnormal DNA is made.
  3. Water greatly increases the efficiency of the immune system in the bone marrow, where the immune system is formed (all its mechanisms) – including its efficiency against cancer.
  4. Water is the main solvent of all foods, vitamins, and minerals. It is used in the breakdown of food into smaller particles and their eventual metabolism and assimilation.
  5. Water increases the efficiency of red blood cells in collecting oxygen in the lungs.
  6. Water clears toxic waste from different parts of the body and takes it to the liver and kidneys for disposal.
  7. Water is the main lubricant in the joint spaces and helps prevent arthritis and back pain.
  8. Water is used in the spinal discs to make them “shock-absorbing water cushions”.
  9. Water is the best lubricating laxative and prevents constipation.
  10. Water prevents clogging of arteries in the heart and brain, and helps reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
  11. Water gives us power and electrical energy for all brain functions, most particularly thinking.
  12. Drink to a healthier you!
  13. Water is directly needed for the efficient manufacture of all neurotransmitters, including serotonin.
  14. Water can help prevent attention deficit disorder in children and adults.
  15. Water restores normal sleep rhythms.
  16. Water makes the skin smoother and decreases the effects of aging.
  17. Water decreases premenstrual pain and hot flashes.
  18. Dehydration prevents sex hormone production – one of the primary causes of impotence and loss of libido.
  19. Water reduces the incidence of morning sickness in pregnancy.
  20. Water helps prevent the loss of memory as we age. It helps reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and Lou Gehrig’s disease.
  21. Water helps reverse addictive urges, including those for caffeine, alcohol, and some drugs.

Drink up and cheers to a healthier you ❤

When Sleeping Woman Wake Mountains will MOVE

Ok so I wanted to write the second part to my story. But as I sit here trying to knock something out in the limited amount of time I have before one of my three children or husband comes in and I have to step away yet a again. I am feeling lead to just simply write. Because really we all have these stories, these sagas and they have helped us become who we are today but they do not define us. They do however help us relate to each other and allow others to possibly learn and grow though us sharing them. But sometimes I feel like the more I talk about them the more I like etch it to my soul and the more I allow it to define my now and allow them to let me make excuses for myself. I feel sometimes like I’m speaking to the wind and whats the point of all the posts and blogs. Is anyone really even reading them? But well there is always a point and slowly He is revealing his plan as I go. If anyone would have told me even two years ago that I would get personal messages from people I barely know genuinely complimenting and thanking me for my candor or the recipe post I made, even asking advice!!! I seriously would have fallen off my chair! 7 years ago I was in an emergency room laying face down on a hospital bed as a doctor carefully picked out tiny shards of glass from my back with surgical tools. It was the result of yet another fight and the wine glass my husband had thrown at me. I’d love to say I left there and had made this cathartic breakthrough and from that moment on everything changed. But really if we are honest with ourselves does anything ever really work that way?! Is real true change instant or does it require deep raw ongoing hard work. Full of gut wrenching self-realization that sometimes we are not ready to face. It would have been very easy to blame my ex-husband. It would have been very easy to blame my father for leaving in search of a “better” life that didn’t really include us. Or blame a pharmaceutical company and failing medical system. But really where would all that blaming, explaining and excusing get me?  Through all of my therapy,  personal growth, development mentoring and schooling. The biggest obstacle I discovered I had, was me. I had had a life time of set backs and big events that I allowed to shape who I was but not in a way that served me. I personally have found recognizing that if I would like to be a happier more fulfilled person the only place to look is at myself the most encouraging and freeing discovery. Because guess what I can’t alter the actions of others or what happens around me. But I can choose how I act and react to everything. I am seeking a different result in my world I need to be the ripple of change I want to see in my life. It has been the hardest lifestyle shift to make yet. But the one that is making the biggest impact. Growing up in today’s world  we are hardwired for this mindset that holds very little accountability and our life skills can only ever really be as strong as the ones that were demonstrated to us. Unless we recognize a point of needed growth within ourselves we can become stuck. We may hold this beautiful vision of where we would like to see ourselves but not the faintest idea how to get there. We are so focused on looking at outward sources that we lack the skills of looking within. We are educated more by teachers and care staff than our families, we see doctors when we are sick and psychologists when we feel sad. We watch a movie when we are board and go to the drive thru when we are hungry, get a new dress or lipstick when we are feeling down on our bodies. Buy a big house and nice car when we want to feel and appear successful. My gosh the list could go on and on and is the source of this perpetuating circle of individuals who are like me stuck and unable to find a way out. I never thought the hardest skill I would need to learn was ME. I recently heard the most poignant quote.

“I am not here for your understanding of me. I am here for your understanding of who you are. I am your mirror. How you feel about me, what you see in me, the thoughts that arise of your encounter of me, the judgments you hold about me are all reflections of you. They have nothing to do with me.” Emily Maroutian

I was guilty of looking at everyone and everything in my life making excuses, finding fault and placing blame. I saw so much injustice in the cards I was handed and faulted those who were a part of them. But life really is pretty simple if we can learn to know ourselves sit with our heartbreak accept the injustices as an opportunity for growth and change. Look to those people you’ve separated from yourself because they challenged you, and explore why. I truly believe we have the power to speak life or death over ourselves and our lives with the power of our thoughts, actions and words. More often than not we are our biggest obstacle. And our complaints are e reflection of the areas within ourselves that requires some unpacking and growth. What is holding you back? Look in the mirror voice out loud the blame and fault you have misplaced that you feel is the reason for your road block. Then truly reflect on if they are an accurate source in hinderance or simply a reflection of your own personal areas where you might be avoiding truth and growth. I challenge you to stop blaming and complaining and be the change you wish to see in your life. Then you will find true release and growth. Get out of your own way. Be all that you are called to be. I feel like often God places specific people and situations in our life because he needs you to be brought to your knees by the challenge so he can speak in to you and weed out that which needs to Go!

The foundation of cellular energy

For those of you who went to the regional summit will have heard this term a lot. Mitochondria! We have heard a lot about how the Life Long Vitality (LLV) pack, truly nourishes cells and promote healthy organisms.

The mitochondria is the aspect of the cell that creates energy ! So it’s huge when it comes to making energetic cells, to make energetic tissues, organs and to then energize the system!

I found that my energy has definitely increased since I have started the doTERRa supplement line! And more recently the Mito2Max!

I highly encourage anyone who is still feeling a bit off to get on track with these. They will help supplement some possible missing links in your diet.

For the brainy folk out there here is wiki’s definition of a mitochondrion;
” They make most of the cell’s supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a molecule that cells use as a source of energy. Their main job is this energy conversion. They oxidise glucose to provide energy for the cell. The process makes ATP, and is called cellular respiration.[2]

In addition to supplying cellular energy, mitochondria are involved in a range of other processes, such as signalling, cellular differentiation, cell death, as well as the control of the cell division cycle and cell growth.[3]”

The pun is just hilarious and made me think of the regional summit and all those docs!

Enjoy!

Biblical Healing and Whole Wellness

It is imperative that we recognize our lifestyle and eating habits pollute our temple, break down our immune system and cause us to be sick. Sickness is simply the body reacting to us putting something into it that God did not intend or design for it to have. Until steps are taken to recognize and remove the cause of disease and suffering, only degeneration an early death will result. Bible puts it this way and we must learn “be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth that shall he reap” Galatians 6:7. We cannot eat the diet of this world and enjoy perfect health and vitality. The choices we make determine whether we live in sickness or health.

If we choose to have abundant life, it will be necessary to change the diet and lifestyle to which we have been accustomed or addicted. Although it initially may sound difficult and restrictive to obtain optimal health it is the only choice we have. Our heavenly father set laws for our infinite good to preserve life and allow his children to attain their highest possible state of wellness. He made no boundaries on what we may attend, but our diet and lifestyle choices often limit us when we knowingly or unknowingly violate his natural laws. When we bring our lifestyle into alignment with God’s laws, most physical problems just simply begin to be washed away.

Yes, God wants his children to be well, and he is able to heal our broken bodies just like when he walked among us. However, we are called to be reverent of his natural laws! When natural laws are violated, we reap the consequences of our actions. Many Christians want to live the way they like, eat what they want, and then they get sick and some blame and question Him. But God very clearly warns us and calls us to reject worldly was the flesh and driving selfish nature of want and need placed in us by sin. As we humble ourselves and become obedient to our creator and the natural and physical laws he established, we will realize that it is a privilege and indeed an honor to serve God and honor his Holy temple.

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and destroy: I come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” John 10:10

In today’s world most have strayed so far from the guidelines we have been given in the Bible. We have violated all the natural laws God provided at the time of creation, and we have become complacent about our health. We except illness as a normal part of life. So let’s consider some of the reasons why it is imperative for us to get back to a biblical understanding of nutrition and lifestyle. Too often we feel the need to seek physicians, whom we have been taught have the cure for all our ills. When in fact what Physicians do is address, alleviate and suppress symptoms. However, prevention and maintenance are much easier and certainly more cost effective. But that would affect the powers at be bottom line. So it is not the primary focus. Having a population that remains generally unwell is much more profitable than a population that is objective and aware. Is important for everyone to learn how to more effectively implement these natural laws that God has given. God set before us life and death and asked us to choose life. He did not leave us with out some guidelines to follow. These guidelines are quite simple and are found in the Bible and in nature all around us. These guidelines do not stress the body nor will they tax the emotions, even though they contain tremendous powers. The guidelines God gave us are

-proper nutrition

-pure air

-pure water

-active lifestyle

-sunshine

-adequate rest

-thankful and grateful faithful spirit

The sad and unfortunate truth is as a people we have adulterated and negatively impacted every single one of these required sources for life. There is no longer any pure source of nutrition due to pesticides and soil nutrient depletion we have adulterated our food source with GMO’s. Our air is laden with toxic irritants and our bodies are under constant attack. There is no longer a pure source of water on our planet. And our lifestyles are that of sedentary complacency. Often with attitudes of blame and Great lack of responsibility. If we believe he created us than we realize the reality is that someone designed and created us. And if someone designed and created us we have just like a vehicle requirements to maintain our optimal performance. They cannot run on just anything and remain functioning at top capacity and capability. If we don’t change our oil for example eventually our vehicle will fall into disrepair and stop working We in our ignorance and unbelief, have totally changed and adulterated gods plan, and the result is sickness, disease and unhappiness. We can’t serve the Lord in a sick body, so it is time to take responsibility for our own bodies and health and not leave it up to anyone else or blame other people or outside causes for our declining state. God has not failed us. He is the same yesterday today and forever. We my friends are the ones who have gone astray. I invite you to truly meditate upon this. Digging to his word and ask him what he has for you to do in this area.

Simple Wellness

Have you ever wondered why a certain diet worked for your best friend, but not for you? Or why one twin develops Type II diabetes, but the other twin doesn’t? The answer is highly personal—it’s in your DNA and the lifestyle choices you make.

We grow up hearing about how unique each of us is, but we often forget that our uniqueness goes down to the cellular level. It’s the reason why someone like comedian George Burns can live to be 100, even with a notable smoking habit, while other people die of lung cancer in their 40s. Modern Science has made tremendous advances in understanding human DNA, and now we’re able to easily use genetic research to our advantage, especially when it comes to our diet. A few years, even months ago the though of allowing  another “scientific” approach to influence my health whatsoever would have sent me SCREAMING for the hills. But then I had to sit with that for a minute (or months LOL) Has it n to been my prayer that the medical and holistic community would find some middle ground and begin working together?

To understand this concept a little better, here are a few definitions to know:

  • Genome means the genetic material that you’re born with: your DNA. This cannot be changed—think “written on stone plates with lightening.”
  • Epigenome means the network of chemical compounds that interacts with the genome by directing which genetic material to activate or which to leave inactive—the mechanism that “turns on” or “turns off” your DNA. The epigenome is affected by personal health, diet, nutrition, exercise, and other lifestyle choices—think “written in pencil”—thus affecting which genetic material is active.
  • Nutrigenomics is a field that combines the study of nutrition and gene expression. Scientists working in this field investigate how nutrients and other bioactive components in food affect important metabolic and physiological processes by “turning on” or “turning off” certain genes.

Nutrition-Genome-Logo-300x185

Turning genes on and off? It may sound to good to be true, but it’s very real. Nutrigenomics has come a long way in a short time and has developed a wealth of information that can be used by anyone concerned about personalizing and truly understanding their healthcare plan. Dr. Ahmed El-Sohemy, one of the top researchers in the nutrigenomics field, investigates how the foods we eat interact with our genes to affect our health. in one paper he reports.

  • Compounds found in broccoli can switch on a gene that helps the body detoxify some of the chemicals we’re exposed to every day. This gene is missing in about 20% of the general population who won’t get the detoxification benefits (though they will still get the other benefits of healthy eating).
  • In some people, creatine supplementation provides large increases in performance and increases lean mass. In others with different DNA, there is no response at all.
  • Studies with caffeinated coffee show that for some individuals, drinking coffee lowers the risk of heart attacks. But in other individuals, the same dose of coffee actually increases the risk of heart attacks.

dna

Different foods and substances affect each of us differently? That’s why some people may bulk up with creatine and others don’t notice any benefits. And it’s also why your body may have a more difficult time losing weight. Than your friend while following the same diet. The research in nutrigenomics has also found that what food tells your genes affects your metabolism. Mark Hyman describes nutrigenomics like this:

  • The new science of nutrigenomics teaches us what specific foods tell your genes. What you eat directly determines the genetic messages your body receives. These messages, in turn, control all the molecules that constitute your metabolism: the molecules that tell your body to burn calories or store them. If you can learn the language of your genes and control the messages and instructions they give your body and your metabolism, you can radically alter how food interacts with your body, lose weight, and optimize your health.

The implications of this research are huge. It determines, for example, why certain medications work for some people, but not for others, or why people need different doses of medication. And while studies often show inconsistencies about how nutrients, supplements, and other bioactives work in the body, everything depends on the DNA of the subjects being studied.

This has lead me to ponder then how effective supplementation is? I have always been a huge advocate for it! It fact our home prioritizes or small budget to ensuring we all have proper supplementation even on our very modest income. But maybe a better approach would be for science and holistic health to work hand in hand to discover how we can eat to support our specific body activation. Encouraging it to carry out the tasks it was designed for. But not functioning at highest capacity due to the negative impact our lifestyle has had on our environment, food and water supply as well as heal care system and wellness education. No longer guessing what we need and providing supplements based on symptoms (a body does not even exhibit symptoms unless that system is functioning at less than 60%). But truly understanding and respecting our unique and wicked temples and the care they require! So many of us go through our lives without ever truly understanding how what we eat effects our overall health and wellness. We never consider to suspect that the foods we do or don’t eat every day are the source of this decades sate of health. The amount of food sensitives that go ignored and misunderstood are in my opinion a epidemic. Most of us go through our lives living with symptoms we’ve had for so long our brains have just literally learned to suppress them but unfortunately our bodies themselves do not really have that choice. What happens is simply a domino where one thing continues to cascade into another. All creeping on so slowly that for myself personally I had no clue, I truly had been feeling so horribly until I began to heal. Functioning in this space of cyclical depression and defeat. But sort making the best of it? 🙂 Until we get our heads out of the sand and recognize our uniqueness we are not going to  learn grow and succeed. What we put in our bodies is the source of all disease a predisposition  dose not guarantee disease unless we activate it. And this activation or symptom is going to look different in each of us depending on our gene makeup. But the source is the same, your NUTRITION or lack they of.

I am a woman very strong in my Faith and the more I read his word and understand him the better I can understand myself and my temple. As I begin to truly comprehend his crazy love for us leads me to believe he would never live us hear without everything we ever needed right from day one here on this earth. Understanding this leads we to see and accept the concept of what a interconnected fantastic eco system he has created not only around us but in us! And just like the delicate eco system of the animals our way of life is rendering extinct. We to can be throw completely off by a simple imbalance that sets off  a chain reaction within us. Once we as a people are able to understand hoe truly wholly and uniquely our bodies function. We will be able to truly support true healing and overall general simple health and wellness my living as GOD calls us to be. Respectful stewards of HIS temple for we are the dwelling place of his holly spirit.

Cannabinoid

The human body has many different types of nerve receptors. Nerve receptors can be thought of as groups of nerve endings. One type of nerve receptor naturally found throughout the human body is the cannabinoid receptor. It is so named because molecules found in cannabis interact with it. However, other natural components have been found to interact with cannabinoid receptors in a non-psychoactive manner.

Caryophyllene is a sesquiterpene found in high amounts in black pepper, ylang ylang, and Melissa essential oil. It activates a specific type of cannabinoid receptors that is being studied for many benefits, but has no psychoactive activity, called cannabinoid receptors type two, or CB2.

Activating CB2 with caryophyllene is being studied from any benefits, including that of supporting the body’s normal immune response to inflammatory stressors such as intense exercise. These receptors are present immune cells as well as some regions of the brain and brain stem. Caryophyllene’s support of healthy cell growth may also be tied activating CB2 receptors.

I personally have been using this to support my left brain function. I have been very open in sharing my story. And due to my history, my body was placed in a constant state of fight or flight for years. This suppressed my left brain function. Your left brain is the analytical side that has great attention to detail, mathematics, art self-expression beauty and joy. It has taken a long time for me to have the space in my life to begin healing. And the farther my research takes me the more I feel driven to share. We all have a story and I believe He gives it to us for a very specific reason. And I intend to tell mine over and over and give all the glory to HIM. He alone has brought me to where I am today. Has given me the support and space in my life to explore natural holistic approaches to health that has absolutely changed our families life. He put everything in front of me that I needed as well as the individuals to help me learn with and grow.
